The Power of Grace: Ephesians 2:9-10
This Sunday, we wrapped up our Power of Grace series by turning our attention to what happens after grace meets us. Last week, we explored how grace is the unearned gift of God that lifts us from death to life—not because we deserve it, but because of who God is. This week, Pastor Dave picked up where we left off, and what we briefly touched on last week: how we live from that grace.
Our anchor text remained Ephesians 2:1–10, and while the first verses remind us of where we’ve come from—our sin, our separation, our need—the final verse, verse 10, points us forward. It tells us that we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to walk in the good works He has already prepared for us. In other words, grace doesn’t just save us from something; it saves us for something.
Pastor Dave reminded us that grace is not just a one-time moment at the altar. It’s an invitation to a whole new way of living. Often, we’re tempted to think that if we just try hard enough, plan well enough, or get ourselves “put together,” then life will go as it should. But grace shifts that thinking entirely. God doesn’t wait for us to figure it all out—He calls us to walk with Him, step by step, trusting that He has already prepared the path.
The real challenge comes in how we respond. Are we living like people who have been made new? Or are we still trying to prove ourselves, earn our worth, or carry the guilt of our past? Pastor Dave made it clear that we’re all walking in something. The call of the Gospel is to walk in the grace that has already been extended—to live like people who’ve been raised from the dead, who are no longer bound by shame or striving, but free to follow Jesus with open hands.
But this walk isn’t always easy. Sometimes the way forward feels uncertain. Sometimes we don’t feel strong enough, holy enough, or “ready” enough to step into whatever God might have for us. And yet, that’s the beauty of grace. We don’t have to be fully ready. God readies those He calls. Our job is simply to take the next faithful step.
This grace-filled walk doesn’t mean life will be easy—but it does mean we never walk alone. In fact, our struggles, Pastor Dave reminded us, are often the places where God grows our roots the deepest. Like trees that learn to dig in during storms, we are formed and strengthened not in spite of difficulty, but through it. Grace sustains us in those moments and gives us a hope that is steady—even when everything else is shaking.
The message closed with this reminder: You weren’t just saved to be safe. You were saved to be sent. God has prepared good works for you—not to earn His love, but as a response to it. No matter your past or your weaknesses, you are part of God’s story of redemption in the world. So, stop waiting to feel “ready.” Grace has already made the way. Take the next step.
